FAQ’s About FIFA World Cup 2026 Schedule

104 total matches are played across all stages 72 in the group stage and 32 in the knockout rounds. This is up from 64 matches at every previous tournament, thanks to the expanded 48-team format and the brand new Round of 32 stage.

All official times are in Eastern Time (ET). Group stage slots are 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 9:00 PM, and 10:00 PM ET depending on the venue’s timezone. Games at Pacific coast venues like Los Angeles and Seattle can kick off as late as midnight ET. The opening match is at 3:00 PM ET on June 11 and the final is at 3:00 PM ET on July 20.

Dallas (AT&T Stadium) hosts the most matches of any single venue with 9 total games, including knockout stage fixtures. Across all 11 US cities, 78 of the 104 matches are played on American soil. Mexico and Canada each host 13 matches across their respective cities.

The Round of 32 is a completely new knockout stage introduced for the first time ever in 2026. After the group stage, 32 teams advance — the top 2 from each of the 12 groups (24 teams) plus the 8 best third-placed teams. Those 32 play single-elimination matches. Lose once and you are out. The 16 winners then enter the Round of 16.

The group stage ends on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with the final six group matches all kicking off simultaneously in their respective groups. The Round of 32 then begins on June 29.

The final is at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 3:00 PM ET. The stadium holds over 82,000 fans and sits about 10 miles from New York City. It will be the first World Cup final in history to feature a live halftime show, produced by Global Citizen.
